Mindy Kaling Said Reese Witherspoon's Unexpected Baby Gift Was Proof She's on Another Level

When it comes to celebrity baby gifts, Mindy Kaling very likely peaked early. Shortly after giving birth to her daughter Katherine in 2017, Oprah Winfrey sent over a care package that required a U-Haul truck and two delivery men. So, after Mindy secretly welcomed a baby boy named Spencer in September amid a global pandemic, she certainly wasn’t expecting any more lavish, hand-carved bookcases filled with hundreds of essential pieces of children’s literature.

Still, she said that although her famous friends were all incredibly generous, one in particular was on another level.

“Listen, that gift from Oprah was pretty hard to top,” Mindy, who just announced a partnership with HelloFresh, told POPSUGAR. “I will say that, and this is maybe unsurprising . . . Reese.”

Yep, Mindy’s other former Wrinkle in Time costar (who has also tasked Mindy with writing the script for Legally Blonde 3) takes top billing this go-around, not because of the gift itself but the thought behind it.

“I felt like the minute I got back from the hospital, there was a gorgeous gift for Spencer, with beautiful clothes and toys,” she said. “And this is why you know a gift is from Reese Witherspoon – she also got my older kid something. My daughter, who didn’t do anything, got all these beautiful clothes and toys, too. And she sent us food, so we didn’t have to cook for four days. So, that’s to me just a very Reese Witherspoon-type present where it’s thoughtful but in a very macro way. Like, she really knows what’s going on in your life. That was impressive to me.”
