The Best Afternoon Tea in the World Just Got Fancier
London brims with prim, posh and perfectly 'grammable places for afternoon tea — the Sketch being a regular fixture, for example — but if you're wondering where else is home to the best tea and cakes in the city, we've got your answer: The Hotel Café Royal, part of the Leading Hotels of the World group. Specifically, its new collaboration with French perfumer, Diptyque. But don't just take our word for it, the venue has the silverware to back it up, having taken out the "Best Traditional Afternoon Tea" title in the 2017 Afternoon Tea Awards.
Set in the hotel's opulent Oscar Wilde Bar, the Diptyque afternoon tea includes four new delicacies alongside the classic experience. Each new treat is inspired by some of the brand's most popular scents: Roses, Vanilla, Violette and Verveine, and includes:
- Rose Victoria — A Victoria sponge with a raspberry and rose jam, and a lychee and rose mousse, topped with silver leaf and crystallised rose.
- Tahitian Vanilla Bar — Tahitian vanilla sponge topped with hazelnut praline feuilletine and a Valrhona "Opalys" ganache.
- Violet and Cassis Tart — A sweet pastry tart with a violet cream and blackcurrant jam.
- Lemon Verbena — A verveine-infused lemon cream with an orange crémeux on a sablé breton base.
To sweeten the deal, all guests will also walk away with their very own Diptyque Baies candle — the perfumer's most popular scent. It will be served daily from September and starts from $97 per person. So if you've got a trip planned, best get cracking on those reservations, eh?
