Last year's TripBarometer (TripAdvisor's annual study of traveller sentiment) found that one in five travellers chose their destination based on what they saw on television shows. TV tourism is definitely on the rise, but it's hardly surprising when you think of the cinematography and huge budgets that go into TV shows in the age of Netflix and HBO. During the sixth season of Game of Thrones, which is filmed almost entirely in Spain, interest in the country from travellers has increased by 125 percent.
Campillo de Dueñas has been the Spanish town to register the largest increase in interest from travellers around the globe, with 291% more traffic than last year on TripAdvisor. The nearby attraction, Castillo de Zafra, which was used as the Tower of Joy in Bran's visions (you know, where we got to see the young Ned Stark), has been the attraction to generate the most interest from travellers in 2016. It's web visits increasing by 488 percent! Spanish locations Bárdenas Reales de Navarra, Girona, Almería, Seville and Tudela have also seen peaks in traffic during season six.
Iceland and Croatia, in particular Klis, have been the other two countries to see a burst in popularity due to GoT this year. We've rounded up some stunning imagery of the real-life destinations so you can move them from here straight to your bucket list!
