Everything You Absolutely Can Not Miss at This Year's Mardi Gras

There's the parade, for sure, but there's also so much more to the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. It's events galore, and this year, it's 40th, you need to be part of it. A mix of paid and free festivals, exhibits and parties, there's something for everyone, and we've picked out the very best. Mark your iCal and find out more below.

The Parade

The iconic main event. It's totally free, and will also be aired on SBS.
Saturday, March 3
7 p.m. — 11 p.m.
Oxford St., Paddington.

The Party

Guys, Cher will be there. This will be a party for the ages. It's also sold out, so if you have tickets, hold onto them tight!

Fair Day

A free, family-friendly carnival with a plethora of rainbow-filled activities for all.

Museum of Love and Protest

To commemorate 40 years of LGBTIQ+ life, this signature event will show original costumes, photographs, rarely-seen film and video footage, iconic posters and artefacts from the last four decades. Entry is free.

Pool Party

Get yourself tickets to this sleek poolside event ASAP, it will be Speedos galore.

Queer Art After Hours

The Art Gallery of NSW's weekly After Hours night gets a fresh LGBTQI+ angle. Featuring a stand-out line-up of queer performances, music and tours. And lots of drinks.
Wednesday, Feb. 28.

Trevor Ashley's Mardi Gala

The Mardi Gras answer to the Met Gala. This is the event to get seriously dressed and make your way to the Opera House. You'll be entertained by a 14-piece orchestra and the likes of Joel Creasey, Carlotta and Todd McKenney. It will be a night to remember (and of course, there's an after party).

8 p.m. — 10 p.m.
Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, Sydney.

Family Fun Day

Head to Luna Park for a party for kids and their LGBTQI+ families and friends. There'll be a dance party in the Crystal Palace, and unlimited rides all day.
Saturday, Feb. 24.
11 a.m. — 4 p.m.
Luna Park, Milsons Point.

Sissy Ball

Be transported to a dancefloor straight from NYC's underground Ballroom scene, complete with Vogue throwdown. This is a night to express yourself and dance. Curated by club icon Bhenji Ra, this will be one to remember.

Drag Brunch Sundays

Brunch made fabulous every Sunday. Enjoy bottomless drinks, drag bingo and music by DJ Ray Isaac for $60 (or $50 if you book ahead).

Koori Gras
