When Tiffany Hulm (on Instagram as @NomadicDreamer), 27, and her boyfriend Sean, also 27, told their pals they were leaving Sydney life and going to travel the country in a van, no one was surprised. "Our friends thought we were really lucky to be able to just take off, I've travelled as much as I possibly could in my adult life, and the opportunity to explore our insanely amazing country with my best friend was too good to not jump at," Tiffany says.
They found a 1982 Toyota Hiace Pop-Top Campervan that was completely kitted out with storage, a sink, a three-way fridge, a shower and gas water heater, and bought her for $7900. "In hindsight, this was too much to pay. She has a lot of character but a little too many DIY jobs and too much rust," says Tiff.
They christened her VANessa "the cream dream", and set off up the coast. That was about six months ago, and with #VanLife blowing up on social media, we wanted to know what it's really like living in and out of a van, so we asked Tiff every question we had — including her local destination recommendations.
