The frost moon is one name given to the full moon that occurs in November, but it also’s referred to as the beaver moon, a nickname inspired by nature. “Native Americans, looking to keep track of time, named the full moons every month based on what was happening in nature,” astrologer Kim Woods told POPSUGAR. “In November, the full moon has two commonly adopted names, the frost moon and the beaver moon. The frost moon is named for the timing of the first hard frost and the beaver moon is due to beavers building their winter dams by the light of the moon, and hunter’s setting traps to capture the heavy pelts to stay warm during the winter.”

When Is the Full Beaver Moon in 2022?

This year, we’ll be starting off the month of November welcoming the full beaver moon. The full beaver moon in 2022 is on Nov. 8 at 6:02 a.m. E.T., according to Woods. And this isn’t just any old beaver moon, this year’s full beaver moon will be an extra special lunar event. “In 2022, the full beaver moon is also a total lunar eclipse, as the earth moves between the sun and moon, which happens every six months,” Woods says.

What Sign Is the Moon in November?

Moons go through many different signs throughout the month. As for the full beaver moon (aka the full frost moon), in November 2022 there are a few signs in particular that it will take the form of before settling on two. “The full moon in November is either in the sign of Taurus or Gemini, as the sun is either in Scorpio or Sagittarius,” Woods tells POPSUGAR. “A full moon occurs when the moon is in the opposite sign of the sun.”

For the majority of this November, the sun will take primarily be two signs. “From Nov. first to roughly the 20th, the sun is in Scorpio and for the remainder of the month, the sun is in Sagittarius,” Woods explains. The final signs of the moon in November will settle and appear as Taurus and Scorpio.

“It settles at its fullest point in Taurus, bringing with it powerful, determined energy, but with that the potential for fallouts between those of us with already strong personalities,” astrologer Melody J tells POPSUGAR. “Appearing in Scorpio, expect new sources of sensual energy, and possibly an unexpected flirtation or two,” she explains.

In astrology, the light and dark positions that the sun and moon assume during a full moon are directly related to a change in our senses and emotions. “The spiritual meaning of the beaver moon in 2022, being in eclipse, signifies the collective soul karma and soul destiny as noted by the points in the sky where the sun and moon paths cross,” Woods tells POPSUGAR. “The soul karma, or south node, is where we learn our karmic lessons, and the soul destiny, or north node, is where we are becoming.”

So, what should we be mindful of going into the beaver moon in 2022? Letting go of drama and embracing calmness are on the list. “For this beaver moon, we are learning to let go of drama, power plays, and being overly materialistic,” Woods tells POPSUGAR. “We are moving toward appreciating basic values, being calm, and feeling safe and secure.”

“Simple pleasures and creature comforts take on elevated meaning,” she tells POPSUGAR. “Coupled with the steadfast power of Taurus, this beaver moon should leave us all feeling strengthened,” adds Melody J. “However, we should be careful that this strength of will doesn’t leave us inflexible. Taurean energy can be powerful but headstrong, and even though ice can be stronger than water, it can also be brittle.”

What Does the Beaver Moon Mean For Zodiac Signs?

In astrology, the moon is considered a direct reflection of our hearts, while the sun represents power. “The sun signifies power, how we enter the world and the core of our being,” Woods tells POPSUGAR. “When the sun and moon pull in opposite directions, the tension opens our ability to be and feel more than at other times.”
