From Drop Zones to Escape Zones: The Rules of “Rush Australia” Explained
“Rush Australia” is a high-stakes competition that follows a group of 12 everyday Aussies as they embark on a global adventure. The contestants face thrilling challenges and race against the clock to reach the coveted Escape Zones. From heart-pounding moments of triumph to unexpected twists and turns, “Rush Australia” has it all. What’s in it for the cast? Just a mere $100,000 and two first-class around-the-world tickets.
But are the rules of the game? Let’s break it down.
“Rush Australia” Rules Explained
The Drop Zone
Contestants are dropped in some of the world’s most chaotic and exciting festivals or locations. Equipped with noise-cancelling headphones and blackout goggles, they remove their headgear and immerse themselves in the environment. Feeling the rush around them, they must gather themselves and start the race.
Watches
As the contestants emerge from the initial shock of their locations, they receive a ping on their watches from the host, David, with a cryptic clue to find his whereabouts. This clue sets the stage for their next challenge.
Host Brief
The teams race from the Drop Zone to find David. Upon arrival, David provides them with valuable information about the country they’re in and hands over a dossier containing everything they need to know to find the Escape Zone. With only their clothes and some local currency, they must rely on their wits and resourcefulness to navigate through unfamiliar territories.
Missions
Before reaching the Escape Zone, teams must complete challenging missions that require them to immerse themselves in the local cultures. These missions test their adaptability, teamwork, and ability to overcome cultural barriers.
Check-Ins
Each night, teams must find their way to the specified accommodations listed in their dossier. Upon check-in, they receive a watch notification indicating their team’s arrival order. Based on their times, they are advised when they can leave the next morning. The first team to check in becomes the first team to check out, ensuring a head start on the race.
Escape Zone
The ultimate goal is to reach the Escape Zone before the other teams. Once at the Escape Zone, teams meet David for a crucial moment. The last team to arrive faces a difficult decision — they must eliminate one of their own. After a brief discussion, the team members vote on who to send home. The individual with the most votes leaves the competition. In the event of a tie, chance decides their fate in a game of “Rush Roulette.”
“Rush Australia” airs at 7.30pm on Mondays and Tuesdays, only on 9 and 9Now. Missed an episode? Catch up on 9Now.
