I’m Hooked: CurrentBody’s LED Light Therapy Mask Smoothed My Fine Lines and Improved My Skin Texture

CurrentBody

I’ve dabbled with LED masks in the past, but haven’t used one for a significant amount of time. I’m guilty of forgetting to use it once and then months seem to go by. This time, I was committed to using the CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask three to five times a week for a period of four weeks to see if I experienced any noticeable results.

First things first: Let’s talk design. CurrentBody’s LED Mask is flexible and made from soft silicone. Unlike a lot of other masks in the same category, which are made from rigid materials, CurrentBody’s offering is a little more pliable and comes with a black velcro strap that you thread through the loops on the side of the mask and help secure the device to your face.

This means the mask is hands-free, except for a cord that attaches to the device on one side and on the other, a small remote. This is where you charge the mask and turn it off and on. The cord is long enough that if you want to walk around with the mask on at home, you can simply pop it in your pocket.

This baby combines two forms of light therapy — red 633nm and near infra-red light 830nm — to rejuvenate skin. This combination of lights help penetrate below the skin’s surface and as a result, helps stimulate collagen production, improve blood flow and deliver oxygen to the cells.

Infra-red light, specifically, also helps to stimulate the cells that are responsible for wound healing, helping to refresh the skin. The end result is a fresher-looking and healthier complexion, which can be achieved when used regularly.

According to CurrentBody, using the device three to five times a week for 10 minutes for a period of four weeks is enough to see a difference in your skin. In fact, the device has been clinically proven to reduce wrinkles by 35 per cent in just four weeks.

With this in mind, I set about my CurrentBody LED Mask journey and four weeks later, I’m completely hooked. I’ve used the device five days a week over that time and have noticed a significant change in my skin. While fine lines are definitely a personal concern, I don’t have more defined wrinkles like the before and after pictures on the CurrentBody website and as a result, can’t comment on the effectiveness of this.

But, the biggest difference I’ve noticed is in the tone and texture of my skin. My pores look less noticeable and my complexion is much smoother. I’ve noticed a change in the firmness of my skin, and the fine lines around my eyes and on my forehead have softened.

The small patches of pigmentation on my skin have also faded and on the whole, my skin looks plumper now than it did four weeks ago. The flexible nature of the mask allows you to wrap it around your entire face, allowing the light to penetrate your skin from your forehead to your chin.

I’ve also noticed an improved radiance in my skin — something I’m always trying to achieve. In terms of using the device, it’s incredibly easy and isn’t at all painful. The only slight inconvenience is the brightness of the LED lights — if you have sensitive eyes, you might want to keep them closed during use.

LED masks are best used on clean skin, so I used the device after washing my face at night. Once the 10 minutes were over (the device automatically turns off after the session), I continued with my regular nighttime skincare routine and found that my skin felt more hydrated on the nights I used the mask.

Skin results aside, I also really enjoyed the process of using the mask. It forced me to take 10 minutes out at night to chill and I often used the time to read instead of staring at my phone or watching TV. It became a part of my nighttime routine that I looked forward to and that, coupled with the complexion benefits, is why I’ll definitely continue to use CurrentBody’s LED Mask.

As for the price, it is on the higher side but, if you look at the most popular LED masks on the market currently, it is pretty reasonable. Coming in at $490, it’s definitely an investment but one that you’ll be able to use for years to come. The cost per use on this device would be pretty amazing! If you are able to invest in a piece of technology like this, CurrentBody’s Skin LED Light Therapy Mask is the way to go.
