The Virtual Beauty Services You Can Access From the Comfort of Your Own Home

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer

While we’ve been in this situation before — lockdown measures and stay at home orders — it doesn’t make it any easier. And, it’s totally understandable if you’re missing your rituals like going to the hairdresser or getting your nails done.

Chances are you tried a DIY haircut in the lockdown of 2020 and whether or not it went well, it’s always a daunting task. Or, maybe you’re still rocking the shellac mani you had way before lockdown. Either way, you’re probably starting to get the beauty itch and if that is the case, we’re here to help.

We’ve rounded up some of the salons, brands and experts offering beauty advice and DIY help during lockdown. From Zoom tutorials to thoughtfully created kits, this is the extent of your beauty appointments for the foreseeable future and we have to say, what’s on offer is pretty wonderful.

Rationale

Skin freaking out in lockdown? You’re not alone. To help diagnose what might be the cause of your skin woes, consider booking a complimentary Virtual Consultation with Rationale. Taking place via phone, video call, live chat or email, your Skin Consultant will tailor your at-home skincare routine based on an assessment of your skin images.

The Parlour Room

Whether you simply want to keep your nails in tip-top shape, or it’s finally time to remove your Gel, SNS, or Bio Sculpture manicure, Sydney’s The Parlour Room has you covered. The At-Home Manicure and Nail Removal Kit (from $30) includes all of the tools you need to keep your nails looking and feeling healthy including cuticle oil, top coat, nude polish and a file pack.

The Lid Doctor

Surry Hills-based barber The Lid Doctor might not be able to see clients in the flesh, but it hasn’t stopped the team from connecting with people via Zoom with the creation of Lockdown Lid Zoom Tutorials. If you or a loved one is wanting their hair cut, The Lid Doctor will take you through the process with a step-by-step guide with some tips and tricks along the way.

All you need to do is book via The Lid Doctor website and make a donation to either Lifeline or Short Back & Sidewalks as payment.

EdwardsAndCo

Clients of EdwardsAndCo in New South Wales and Victoria can freshen up their hair colour at home with the salon’s Home Hair Colour Kits (from $129.95). Originally created in 2020, EdwardsAndCo has relaunched this offering to assist those wanting to cover up their regrowth or grey hairs.

The kit includes everything you need to do the job, including brushes, bowls and gloves, as well as colour formulated on your last salon visit. And don’t worry, founder Jaye Edwards will talk you through the whole process in this handy tutorial.

Fenn

Paddington skincare and wellness destination Fenn only opened in May but it has recently pivoted to offer Facial Kits which include a curated selection of products so you can experience the Fenn goodness at home. Fenn’s Facial Kit No.1 ($690) includes products like the Medik8 Press & Glow and the Omnilux Contour Face LED Mask to reveal a natural, healthy glow.

Facial Kit No.2 ($160) is all about hydration and allows you to revive tired skin in under 15 minutes but can also be stretched out to 30 minutes should you be in the mood for an extended moment of relaxtion.
