Chief David Craig on What We Can Expect From “Hunted” 2023

Hunted Australia Chief David Craig

“Hunted Australia” is back for 2023, and fans of the show couldn’t be more excited. The reality competition took the nation by storm last year, and “Hunted” quickly became one of the most popular new shows of the year. Now, the Hunters are back, and with a new crop of Fugitives on the loose, anything could happen. We spoke to Chief David Craig about everything we can expect from “Hunted” 2023.

Chatting to POPSUGAR Australia over the phone, the Chief said that he was looking forward to watching this season unfold as much as we were.

“It’s as exciting for me as it is for other people!” he said.

The Difference Between Last Year and This Year

“Last season, [“Hunted”] was new to everybody, and I would describe last season in one word as a chase,” the Chief said. “I mean, we were chasing down Fugitives everywhere. This year, the Fugitives were a lot more prepared, and I’d call this season a showdown.”

Dr David Craig went on to say that the Hunters “definitely expected” the Fugitives to come in more prepared this season. After all, they had the opportunity to learn from the mistakes of last year’s contestants. What they didn’t expect, perhaps, was how hard the Fugitives were going to play.

While he didn’t give much away about which Fugitives in particular were the teams to watch, he did declare them “all sneaky rascals!” with a laugh.

“They took it to the next level,” he said. “It was an eye-opener!”

Still, he assured us, it was “nothing that [they couldn’t] handle”

“We’re pretty good at our jobs,” he said, “but we’re certainly not invincible”.

Dr David Craig went on to say that while he and the Fugitives may be on opposing sides during the season, it’s all in good fun at the end of the day.

“These are all good people having a go, so while the game’s on, I absolutely just want to smash ‘em out of the park and get ‘em out of the game and get onto the next one,” he explained. “There’s no better feeling for me during the game than taking them out. But when the whistle blows, these are great Australians having a crack at a competition!

“I’m partially on their side — but not during the game!” he added, laughing.

Chief David Craig’s Advice for Going on the Run

Have you ever had one of those embarrassing social encounters that are so cringeworthy that for a moment, you consider changing your name, fleeing your home, and starting a new life somewhere else? Ha ha, us neither! Anyway! Just in case, we thought we’d ask the Chief for his top tips for disappearing. After all, it’s not everyday you get to consult an expert about such matters.

He laughed.

“Oh, okay! Right, well, don’t get cast for ‘Hunted’, because we will find you, and you will get caught,” he said. “That’s the first rule.” Noted!

Dr Craig went on to say that there are two main ways you can hide.

“You can hide within a whole lot of technology very well, and you can hide away from technology very well, but for how long you can do that is really difficult,” he said.

You see, hiding away from technology involves fleeing to a remote area. The pros are that there are fewer CCTV cameras and the like, so it’s easier to stay off the grid.

The cons, however, are that “the community members are going to know there’s someone new there, and that information might leak to us very quickly,” he explained.

As for getting lost in a sea of faces?

“If you’re in a city, there’s tens of thousands of people around you, so that might make you hard to find, but there’s a lot of technology, facial recognition, things like that, so we might find you there, too,” he said.

“I can’t really give you a good answer on that! It depends on your skills,” the Chief explained.

“Hunted Australia” airs at 7.30pm, Sundays – Tuesdays, only on 10 and 10 Play on Demand. Miss an episode? Catch up on 10 Play.
