PSA: You Can Honeymoon Where the “MAFS” Cast Does (But It’s BYO Drama)

The drama-filled web of “Married At First Sight” has us all hooked. But as we’re slowly learning, not every wedding ends happily ever after. At least the honeymoons often begin on a positive note?

To get a taste of the “MAFS” experience myself, my partner of five years and I enjoyed a weekend escape at one of this year’s honeymoon spots in the Hunter Valley. Unlike the on-screen honeymoon that was riddled with drama and explosive arguments during Bronte and Harrison‘s stay, our experience was completely different.

Nestled in the rolling hills of the Hunter Valley region in New South Wales, just a two-hour drive from Sydney, lies the stunning Oaks Cypress Lakes Resort. This luxurious resort is truly a hidden gem, offering a peaceful and serene escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. It’s really the perfect destination, whether you are looking for a relaxing getaway, a golfing holiday, or a special event venue.

We really got to experience everything during our short stay, and it felt like our home away from home as we settled into our one-bedroom villa.

A Private Golf Lesson

One of the highlights of the resort is its two 18-hole golf courses. Golf enthusiasts will love the challenge and scenic beauty of these courses, which are surrounded by the rolling hills and vineyards of the Hunter. Even if you aren’t a massive golfer, like myself, you can definitely appreciate the course.

Luckily, we had our very own “Golf Pro”, Scott, who showed us the ropes. After some very shameful missed attempts to hit the ball, I eventually got the hang of things. And I’ve got to say, it was really fun — especially the part where you drive a golf buggy around the course.

A Couples’ Massage

After perfecting my swing (or attempting to, at least), we headed to Elysia Wellness Retreat, a neighbouring property, for a couples’ massage. The retreat offers a range of wellness programs designed to help guests achieve their health and wellness goals. It’s the perfect hideaway for anyone looking to escape the stresses of daily life.

We were ushered into a private room with a serene and peaceful atmosphere, with soft lighting and soothing music. The 45-minute massage was a luxurious and romantic experience that I would definitely recommend during your stay.

A Delicious 5-Course Meal

After an action-packed day, we made our way to the resort’s restaurant, Oak & Vine. There, we were treated to a special five-course meal. It featured a range of delicious Sri Lankan dishes that were bursting with flavour. It was the perfect end to a relaxing day, and we left feeling satisfied and extremely full.

All in all, our weekend escape at this year’s “MAFS” honeymoon spot was a delightful experience. In fact, we’re already planning our next visit.
