Looking for Love? The Bachelor is Casting Single Men and Women for its Historic Season

Network Ten

Last year, The Bachelorette Australia made history by having Brooke Blurton front the show. The 27-year-old was the first-ever pansexual and Indigenous Bachelorette, and the season was deemed groundbreaking because it was the first time both men and women entered the mansion.

While her romance with Darvid ended quite suddenly, the season marked a huge win for LGBTQ+ representation and it seems Channel 10 wants to continue down the same path.

While the new bachie hasn’t been confirmed just yet, the network posted a call out for “single men and women” to apply for the upcoming season of The Bachelor Australia.

If it turns out to be true, he will be the first bisexual Bachelor in the show’s nine-year history. The post, which was shared on the series’ official Facebook page read: “Are you searching for that special someone but just can’t seem to find them? The Bachelor is back with a whole new look for 2022 and we’re looking for single men and women who are looking for the love of their life.”

The casting call says filming will take place between May and July this year.

It makes sense as to why 10 may be opting for a different approach from last year, as Jimmy Nicholson’s season of The Bachelor suffered massively in the ratings department. Speaking to Mediaweek back in November, ViacomCBS Australia and New Zealand executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer Beverley McGarvey said the network needed to do “a lot of work” on the dating franchise.

“The thing we need to do a lot of work on next year is around The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. We’re very happy with Celebrity MasterChef and very happy with The Dog House at the back of the year. So now we need to go, ‘What do we do with Bachelor? Can we get it back to its glory days?’

“Often with those legacy formats, there are pivots that you can make, there are things that you can do, and shows like MasterChef and The Block that have been on the air for more than a decade prove that a format can go for a long time when you carefully manage it, and sometimes it’s cyclical.”

If the rumours turn out to be true, we can’t wait to tune in.
