Jordie “the Joker” Hansen first burst onto our screens in 2022, as one of the Castaways on “Australian Survivor: Blood Vs Water“. Within a year, he got the call to return for the very next season, “Australian Survivor: Heroes Vs Villains” — as a villain, of course.

Doing back-to-back seasons of “Australian Survivor” is enough to keep anyone busy, but that wasn’t the only thing going on in his life. Through “Blood Vs Water”, Jordie met Sam Frost, whose brother Alex Frost had competed on the series (alongside her ex-boyfriend Jay Bruno, but the couple split before “Blood Vs Water” went to air).

Jordie and Sam soon began dating, quickly got engaged, and are now just weeks away from welcoming their first child.

“Australian Survivor” Changed Jordie’s Life

Chatting to POPSUGAR Australia over the phone, Jordie reflected on how the show had changed the trajectory of his life.

“I mean, I do think that was always the plan,” he mused. “Call me Mystic Meg, but I’d like to think there’s a greater plan at work, and I think that’s been shown in the last 12 months of my life. You know, you think you’re in control, you think you’re controlling your own life, but my personal experience is that that’s not true!”

He laughed.

“Things happen that are outside of your control and… if it wasn’t for Survivor, I wouldn’t have met her!”

At the “Australian Survivor” auction, Jordie learned that the couple were expecting a baby boy, a moment he describes as “massive”.

“Win or lose, it very quickly became about setting an example for him,” Jordie said. “It puts everything in perspective. While I was happy to just have a healthy baby, no matter what it was, I was just so grateful that I got that moment.”

“He’ll be able to look at that and go ‘oh, wow. My parents were so excited!’” Jordie said. “It’s very special.”

Jordie Hanson on Becoming a Father

Jordie went on to say that when it comes to fatherhood, he’s most excited about having “the opportunity to have even a small part in creating a good man”.

“Hopefully he can have an impact on this world, and learn from my mistakes,” he said. “I’m just excited, and I feel very lucky to have this opportunity.”

As for the wedding, Jordie said that while it’s “still very much happening, it’s sort of been put on the back burner” until after the baby arrives. And by all accounts, Sam is very much ready for that to happen.

Jordie said that she’s “doing really well” but is “getting to that point now where she’s pretty big and uncomfortable … so she’s ready now”.

He laughed.

“She says to him every night ‘look, if you wanna come today, that’s fine! You can!’”

What’s Next for Jordie Hansen and Sam Frost

With another season of “Australian Survivor” done and dusted, a wedding to plan and a baby to welcome, you may expect to see less of Sam and Jordie over the next few months. Not so fast!

“There’s a lot of bits and pieces coming up,” Jordie said. “Sam and I are in chats with a production company about turning our podcast and YouTube channel into our own television series, which is really cool. We’re really excited about that. You know, I’ll believe it when I see it, but it’s good to get excited about things, I suppose!”

“Australian Survivor: Heroes Vs Villains” airs at 7.30pm Sunday – Tuesdays, only on 10 and 10 Play on Demand.
