Check in on your friends who play Roblox. Today, the online game platform removed the “oof” sound effect, and fans are not coping.

If you’ve never logged onto Roblox, all you need to know is that it’s an online platform where players can create their own games and then play games made by others. Except, it’s not just games. People have recreated the Starcourt Mall from Stranger Things in Roblox. Huge bands like Lil Nas X and Twenty One Pilots have put on virtual concerts using motion capture and live recordings.

Think of building in Minecraft mixed with Fortnite-style virtual events.

But where does the “oof” come into it?

It’s simply the sound that plays when a character dies. But given the game’s immense popularity, the Roblox oof has become a regular sound on TikTok and in the playground. If your younger sibling plays Roblox, chances are you’ve heard the oof in real life.

And the reason it’s gone? The official Roblox Twitter account says it’s “due to a licensing issue,” which makes sense given that it was originally made by composer Tommy Tallarico for the game Messiah.

Whatever the reason, fans aren’t happy that the Roblox oof is gone and are begging developers to add it back in. Here are the best Roblox oof memes and reactions from passionate fans.
