Overlined lips aren’t anything new but when the king of perfecting this lip look, Makeup By Mario aka Mario Dedivanovic, shows you how to do it, you take notes. Dedivanovic, who has long been Kim Kardashian West’s makeup artist, is best known for his contouring, baking and lip lining skills.
The makeup artist recently took to Instagram Live to create a makeup look on a model and during this session, he revealed exactly how he overlines lips to make them look lifted and fuller. He even joked during the two-hour-long Instagram Live that this technique “mimics a lip lift. So let’s call it Mario’s lip lift”.
To create this lift, Dedivanovic overlines the middle of the upper and lower lip but follows the natural lines for the rest of the lip, to help create the illusion of a more perky pout. Dedivanovic notes that if you overline the corners of your mouth, it actually pulls your lips down and you aren’t able to achieve the lip lift.
“I’m going to start out on the cupid’s bow area and I’m going to lean the brush and let the shape of the lip guide me,” Dedivanovic said. “I’m going right above the lip line. What this is going to do is instantly lift the lip up. What you do not want to do is overline the corner. Because what you’re doing here is making your face [look] sad.”
It’s that easy! If you make any mistakes while lining your lips, use a cotton tip to remove the product and start again. You can always dip a small flat brush into concealer and brush along the lip line to tidy up the liner. Dedivanovic also recommends choosing a lip liner that isn’t overly creamy, as this can make the end result look a little blurred.
