Naked Sundays are known for their innovative, award-winning, beauty editor beloved sunscreen launches, from the SPF50+ Hydrating Glow Mist Top Up ($39.95) (an essential in my handbag) to their beloved SPF Collagen Glow 100% Mineral Perfecting Priming Lotion ($39.95) one of which sells every 12 seconds.

But their SPF50 Clear Glow Radiant Sun Serum ($36.95) is a first in the Australian market as a TGA-approved, totally clear SPF.

Naked Sundays founder Samantha Brett said of the launch “The biggest bit of feedback we get from our community is that they love SPF that works well with makeup, but that also isn’t white, tinted or thick. I started thinking about what it would look like if I could bottle up our clear SPF Mist and create a serum out of it that was also high-performance SPF.” Buying Australian SPF has benefits beyond supporting Aussie businesses. As Samantha says, “We have a very sophisticated range of SPF filters available in Australia – from tinosorb and other broadspectrum UV filters.” Plus, all Australian SPFs are subject to the TGAs ruthless approval system, ensuring they provide adequate protection under the harsh Australian sun. As a verified Fitzpatrick I pale princess I was very keen to try. Here’s my review.

Does Naked Sundays Clear Glow Live Up to The Hype?

The Naked Sundays SPF50 Clear Glow Radiant Sun Serum comes in a clear glass bottle with a pump (I personally prefer pump rather than dropper bottles for sunscreen as they’re easier for frequent application!)

The formula has a typical primer texture – it’s smooth, slippy and – as advertised, totally clear. The serum initially feels a little heavy on the skin but sets quickly. Once my face felt dry to the touch, I proceeded with my usual makeup routine.

The Verdict:

The benefits of wearing sunscreen that feels like a primer? It acts like one. I usually don’t wear smoothing primers during the day as I find they’re likely to pill when layered over sunscreen (sunscreens are typically film-forming so they should be the last step in your beauty routine). Applied over Clear Glow, my go-to daily foundation (It Cosmetics, Your Skin But Better CC Cream SPF50 ($65.00) skipped over pores and texture that usually bother me. Like any good primer, I also felt I needed to use less product to achieve better coverage and colour. My new favourite blush (McoBeauty, Highlight and Glow Beauty Wand in Peach Glow, $28.00) popped. So, Clear Glow is a win for your daytime no-makeup-makeup looks.

My makeup wore better throughout the day, topped up as usual with my Naked Sundays, Glow Mist. While I prefer a dewy finish, this product allows you to prep your skin as you wish, without adding additional shine or overly mattifying. Currently, I’m using tbh Skincare’s Rebound Serum ($65.00) and Augustinus Bader’s The Cream ($390.00, bougie but beautiful) pre-sunscreen during the day. Clear Glow left the glassy, hydrated base I prefer undisturbed.

Would I Use Clear Glow Radiant Sun Serum Again?

I am very happy to have a TGA-approved primer and sunscreen hybrid in my daily rotation. As usual, Naked Sundays has nailed identifying a gap in the market and delivering a clever product that makes our lives easier. I look forward to poreless, sun-safe days ahead.
