Love Island Australia: Andre Is All About Defying the Odds

Love Island Australia is only days away, and we’re gearing up for love triangles, drama and spicy romance, all set at a stunning villa in Mallorca, Spain.

Love Island might not be known for its long-lasting relationships, but surely the Spanish backdrop will add some extra heat!?

Hosted by Sophie Monk, the reality series will be airing exclusively on Channel 9’s streaming platform, 9Now. They’ve been dropping tidbits about the upcoming season in the lead up — including who our Islanders will be this season.

One of the Islanders looking for lasting love this year is 26-year-old mental health support worker Andre Coutinho, from Perth.

Andre was born with a shoulder injury and was banned from playing contact sport. But guess what? That didn’t stop him from becoming a top AFL player.

When he was 12, he convinced his mum to let him have a go at AFL — and it was the best thing that ever happened for him.

“I had a big scar on my shoulder and people used to comment on while I was playing, so that made me train really hard,” Andre said in a press statement.

“I played state footy for WA, that was really cool. I played at the
WAFL level. For me being able to play at that level considering my injury was pretty significant.”

Having had his heart broken by his last relationship, Andre shied away from anything long term for a little while. But, he says he’s at the stage where he wants to find a girlfriend again.

“I wouldn’t mind meeting a girl I can settle down and make a
future with,” he says.

“I also want to meet some great mates as well. I want to put myself out there and get out of my comfort zone and hopefully find myself a future girlfriend, you never know. It’s going to be a crazy journey.”

Will Andre find himself a long-term love?
