Things aren’t looking too great for “Married At First Sight” couple Alyssa and Duncan. But it’s the final commitment ceremony that has people talking.
Fans were left stunned when the “MAFS” bride deflected her husband’s emotional confession to centre the conversation on herself. If you missed it, he broke down in tears following a disagreement with Alyssa after the Partner Swap Challenge. As Duncan shared his distress with Alyssa in front of the experts, viewers were disappointed when she failed to provide comfort. Instead, she shifted the focus onto her own feelings.
“I felt rejected. Pretty broken actually, I was crying,” Duncan admitted.
In an accusatory tone, Alyssa responded, “You never told me that.”
“It just sort of happened,” Duncan explained.
Alyssa persisted, “You never said you were that upset. Hearing for the first time that you were crying, that’s a big emotion to not share with me.”
Stunned by the bride’s reaction, expert Alessandra Rampolla felt the need to step in: “Alyssa, if I may interject, he’s telling you now.”
To which she responded: “He’s telling you”.
Alessandra encouraged Alyssa to be attentive to Duncan’s feelings, as it may have been challenging for him to confide in her. In response, Alyssa expressed feeling rejected because he did not confide in her earlier.
The expert urged Alyssa to “listen now” and consider how her mood might affect Duncan’s well-being during future conversations. “How can you handle things differently for Duncan’s benefit as well?” she asked.
Overwhelmed, Alyssa ended up bursting into tears (again).
Viewers Left Outraged by Alyssa’s Response
The bride’s dismissive reaction led fans to vent their frustrations on Twitter. Viewers labelled the bride “toxic”, a “nightmare” and even a “villain”. They even likened her to the season’s most controversial groom.
