Is Fortnite Getting a First-Person Mode?

Among the excitement of Chapter 3, Season 3, dataminers also discovered evidence of a first-person Fortnite mode being developed. Reliable dataminer HYPEX shared an image of the first-person camera mode, adding “This update Epic began working on some stuff about first person camera mode but there’s no other info about it at the moment as it looks like it’s still in early development.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumours about a first-person Fortnite mode. In 2020, a video of someone playing in first-person after their game seemingly glitched did the rounds, and other dataminers have shared their own videos of the mode in action. This is the first time it’s been teased by someone with such a reputable platform as HYPEX, although it’s still very basic and nothing’s been confirmed by Epic.

The only downside is that you wouldn’t be able to see your own character skins. For that reason alone, we know Fortnite isn’t going to get rid of its standard third-person camera mode, but lots of players are excited about the possibility of an optional first-person mode for certain games. Like HYPEX says in their post, a first-person camera would work well with the new No Build game mode, turning Fortnite into a more traditional FPS — although still with the outrageous events, weapons and locations that make the game special.

It’s possible we’ll hear more about the first-person Fortnite mode during the rest of Chapter 3, Season 3. Right now, though, Epic is inviting players to design a new building that will replace Tilted Towers, and has released new building tools for inspiration. The best creations will be featured in the game for players to vote on, on the creators with the most votes may find their block creations added to Battle Royale and Zero Build.
