Every day, we inch closer and closer to the grand finale of The Traitors, Network Ten’s latest reality competition series, and last night, we bid farewell to financial investigator Paul, who was murdered by the Traitors, and Teresa, who was banished from the game.

Chatting to POPSUGAR Australia, Teresa Newton spoke about her banishment from the game, what prompted her to join The Traitors, and what’s next for her.

Over the phone, Teresa is as bubbly and fun as she is on the screen. Of her elimination, she laughed.

“I didn’t think I was that mad about it, but yeah, now I’m mad!” she joked, when asked about the emotional show that our remaining Traitors put on at the revelation that Teresa was, indeed, a Faithful.

“To some extent I feel like some of the tears were real,” she said.

Putting herself in their shoes, Teresa explained: “I think you can’t separate yourself entirely from this person; you’ve gotten to know this person, [and] that’s gotta be a tough job.”

“And better them than me, honestly!” she exclaimed. “If that was me banishing somebody and having to lie through my teeth, I’d be in tears too! In saying that, Kate is an actor, and now I believe that Alex will be!” she laughed.

Teresa’s journey on The Traitors came about by a twist of fate — after her friend Rob Crispin won Hunted Australia earlier this year, a producer reached out to her with the opportunity.

“I didn’t actually apply for the position,” she said. “I had a producer call me and just say ‘listen, somebody told me that you might be good for this, do you wanna come on board?’ and I was like ‘absolutely not, I don’t have any time for this! But thank you so much!’”

Of course, once the producer revealed that there was a $250,000 prize on the line, Teresa’s interest was piqued.

“I was like ‘you should’ve started right there, lady!'” she laughed. “That should be your kick off point! Opening line: ‘Do you want to make 250 grand?’ So you go through this huge process of getting into the show and by the end of it I was actually quite excited. It was really cool!”

Of course, Teresa didn’t end up walking away with the prize money, but she did get “a taste for that camera”, and said that if other opportunities for reality television came her way, she’d definitely be open to it.

“I don’t know, man!” she exclaimed. “I was so lucky that people — there were a few haters out there, I’m not everyone’s cup of tea, which is understandable — but there were a lot of people who liked listening to me, watching me and stuff, and I would hope to look forward to something else.

“But if not, I live a busy life! I’ve got three kids, I run a business and I run all of these sports clubs, so whatever will be, will be!” she said.

As for her bucket list of shows she’d want to do, Big Brother Australia is at the top of the list.

“I always wanted to do Big Brother!” Teresa shared. “When I first came to Australia 20-something years ago, I always watched Big Brother and I thought ‘I would kill it in that house!’ except for the whole physical challenge thing,” she laughed. “Did you see how many times I avoided running [on The Traitors]?! Don’t put me down for cardio!”

In the meantime, though, Teresa is perfectly happy to return to her regular life.

“I run a small business called Big Mouth Productions, so I’m a DJ and an emcee and people hire me to come and do events, so I’m always on stage or in front of a crowd and I’ve always got a mic in my hand, so I mean, I’ll continue that,” she said.

The Traitors concludes at 7.30pm on Sunday, November 13, only on 10 and 10 Play on Demand.
