Update December 15: POPSUGAR Gaming has been informed that a “huge delivery” of PS5 consoles has landed in Australia this week. The consoles are already available online and should be available in-store, too, but keep an eye on our list of PS5 sales to make sure you don’t jump the gun. Don’t worry about missing out if you’re not first in line — we’ve been informed there should be enough consoles in stock to walk into a store and pick one up without a pre-order.

You’re about to have an easier time getting a PS5, according to PlayStation head Jim Ryan, who says the supply issue that’s plagued the console since release has been “resolved”.

Appearing at the PlayStation Partner Awards in Japan, Ryan apologised for the shortage and promised better availability during Christmas and into 2023. “We would like to report that we have resolved the long-term supply issue of the PlayStation 5 and we will be able to deliver to Japan and Asia customers from year-end shopping season and into 2023,” Ryan said, according to translations provided by @Genki_JPN.

“We apologize for any inconvenience and greatly appreciate your understanding and cooperation.”

Whether this will immediately apply to Australia’s availability is still unclear, but Sony did announce a “significant improvement” in supply earlier this year, and we’ve already been seeing more and more consoles on sale in the lead-up to Christmas.

It’s good timing: “God of War: Ragnarok” is the latest PS5 exclusive and the next,”Forspoken,” comes out on January 24. You’ll also need a PS5 to play PSVR 2 titles like “Horizon Call of the Mountain” next year.

The reason for the delays is the pandemic, of course. An increased demand for at-home entertainment coupled with supply chain issues meant Sony literally didn’t have enough materials to make enough consoles.

Luckily now there’s an end in sight so, if you’re still trying to buy a PS5 in Australia, take a deep breath and hit refresh.
