“MasterChef Australia: Secrets & Surprises” is seriously keeping us on our toes. Tonight, the queen of fine dining, chef Clare Smyth, is returning to the MasterChef kitchen. Here, the bottom three contestants from the previous night’s mystery box challenge will face off in a pressure test orchestrated by Smyth herself.

To earn their place among the coveted Top 6 of “MasterChef Australia” 2023, these contestants must recreate a signature dish from Smyth’s renowned Sydney establishment, Oncore.

Who Is Clare Smyth?

Smyth is a culinary powerhouse, as she’s the first British woman to be awarded three Michelin stars for her Notting Hill, London restaurant Core. In 2018, she was named the World’s Best Female Chef at the World’s 50 Best Restaurants, and cooked at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. If that wasn’t impressive enough, Core was the first restaurant to enter The Good Food Guide with a perfect score of 10 out of 10.

She has, of course, learnt from the very best, having worked at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay and Alain Ducasse’s Le Louis XV. Smyth was also in a relationship with Ramsay at one point, who she still considers to be a friend and mentor.

In 2013, Smyth was presented with a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). Alongside her multiple appearances on “MasterChef Australia”, she also served as a guest judge on Netflix’s The Final Table.

If you’ve gotten this far into the story, then chances are you’re itching to try Smyth’s delicious creations, and the good news is, you don’t have to go all the way to the UK for it. Her restaurant Oncore is located in Crown Sydney, but seats are limited so be sure to get in early.

The stunning restaurant overlooks Sydney Harbour and truly captures the essence of Smyth and her style, which she describes as “creative, dedicated, and compulsively obsessed with details.”

“Crown Sydney is a world-class dining destination for the city, and I am thrilled to have my first Australian restaurant in this amazing location overlooking one of the most beautiful sites in the world,” she wrote on her website. “Having lived and travelled in Australia early on in my career, it feels like a home away from home and the perfect location for the restaurant.”
